Medole <\/strong>is a small country town in the province of Mantua, <\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n
between towns of Castiglione<\/em>, Guidizzolo<\/em> and Castel Goffredo<\/em> and is part of the Community of Lake Garda<\/em>. To visit there is the civic tower and parts of the walls of the castle, the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, the former monastery of the Annunciation in the south, the Romanesque church of S. Mary of the eleventh century in the north-east of the country.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The town of Medole<\/strong> is located in the province of Mantova in Lombardy, not far from the road that leads from Desenzano in Mantua, in open countryside, just past the “Colline Moreniche del Garda<\/em>“, the name derives from “medolo<\/em>” which means stone, in fact its subsoil is rich in stones, gravel and rocks that were deposited by the glaciers of the Garda when they are loose.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

HISTORY<\/strong> OF MEDOLE<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n

It seems that as early as the first century there was the existence of a town of culture and the Latin language, the nucleus seems to be built where today stands the Romanesque church that was built in the tenth century, it seems on the foundations of a Roman temple . In the fifteenth century a significant immigration occurred in the municipality of Medole<\/strong> which increased a lot the population but scarce food supplies created a separation with the new arrivals and so the population was divided into “uomini di comune<\/em>” (town men) and “uomini di macina” (men of grinder), they were the poorest part of the population and considered foreigners until their offspring did not reach the 150 years since the establishment of the ancestor in the town of Medole<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
