In the halls of the museum are housed many surgical instruments, stretchers, field equipment, rescue vehicles, documents and many other tools used for relief at the time of the battle of Solferino in 1859, when a good part of the forty thousand wounded was transported to Castiglione where the priest Don Lorenzo Barzizza, coordinating the relief operations, transformed churches, public buildings and private houses into hospitals; initiative that inspired the Geneva-born Henry Dunant for the foundation of the organization.<\/p>\n<p><a
