Tower San Martino della Battaglia was built on the highest hill of San Martino to honor the memory of King Vittorio Emanuele II and the fighters for the Unification of Italy between 1848 and 1870.<\/h3>\n
Tower San Martino della Battaglia rises in the beautiful countryside planted with vineyards of San Martino, 64 meters high recalls the battle of 24 June 1859. It was built between 1880 and 1893 with on its top a lighthouse that at night emits a tricolor light. For those arriving at the top the show that will be in front is breathtaking, you can see the villages of Sirmione, Desenzano, Peschiera, Lazise, Bardolino and Garda, as well as the whole valley of the Mincio up to Valeggio; on the top of the tower there is also a lighthouse that radiates the colors of the Italian flag. Inside, the first hall, the entrance hall, is dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele II, while the internal walls that flank the ramp up to the top are decorated with Renaissance frescoes that recall events and protagonists of the period.<\/div>\n
The Historical Museum is located near the tower and here are memorabilia of one of the bloodiest battles. A short distance away, in the park surrounding the tower we find the ossuary which preserves 2619 mortal remains of Italian and Austrian soldiers.<\/div>\n
