{"id":18397,"date":"2014-09-07T11:41:03","date_gmt":"2014-09-07T09:41:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gardatourism.it\/chiesa-di-san-martino-vescovo-2\/"},"modified":"2018-10-24T21:06:41","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T19:06:41","slug":"church-san-martino","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gardatourism.it\/en\/church-san-martino\/","title":{"rendered":"Church San Martino Vescovo"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>The church of San Martino bishop is perhaps considered one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of Verona.<\/h4>\n<p>Church San Martino bishop It is located in the historical center of the town, it is said that it was built on the remains of a pagan temple, but the first mention dates back to 878, the year in which Charlemagne donated two wooden fishponds to San Martino; the church is then also named in a document of 1008 and in 1145 in a papal bull by Eugene III. With the Napoleonic in 1796 the church was used as a warehouse and military hospital and, worn out, was demolished in 1814. In 1815 the Austrians decided to rebuild it, completing it in 1822 with a neoclassical fa\u00e7ade facing the square.
