The old parish church of St. George finds its origin already in ‘ the eighth century , when it is built as a pagan building . Today it is one of the finest examples of Roman architecture in the province of Verona. During the Middle Ages the church served as a reference to one of the three administrative districts in which the territory was divided della Valpolicella and was also home to a choir juniorum , as evidenced by the current small rectory. In this period the building was largely rebuilt and the earthquake of 1117, when it suffered further maintenance , gradually turns into a place of Christian worship purely Romanesque style . The first written documents in this regard date back to 1145 with papal bull of Pope Eugenius III . The hotel has a remarkable architectural balance and a space divided into three naves. Though it is difficult to establish precisely which part of the building is of Lombard origin and which is the rear , there is easily a difference between the western and eastern area : the east side , which has three apses has a Romanesque style and probably dates the eleventh century ; most of Roman tombstones is distributed along this wall and the columns here always go to replace the pillars , which unlike those bare left, present numerous paintings Trecentesche .
