Civic Tower Lonato

Civic Tower Lonato with the Rocca the most characteristic historical monument of Lonato; It is located between the Piazza del Comune and the Rocca, 55 meters high above the historical center, it was built in 1555 and was part of the fortifications that were then destroyed.

The Civic Tower Lonato originally had the domed roof, which still today remains but modified by a crenellation, its function was to regulate the life of the village with the sound of the bells, which in case of danger were sounded like a hammer. The clock was added in 1773, functioning with stone counterweights, now replaced by an electric mechanism.
