Church Santa Maria Assunta

The Church Santa Maria Assunta is located in the main square of the town with Palazzo Ceni and Palazzo Minelli

Church Santa Maria Assunta it is an original building of the XIV-XV century, it remains the central nave and some details; the side altars dedicated respectively to Saint Peter and to Saints Rocco and Sebastiano were added in 1561; the side aisles were built between 1580 and 1619 at the request of Cardinal Carlo Borromeo during his pastoral visit. The bell tower is stylistically of the seventeenth century, but the most challenging interventions were carried out between 1728 and 1750 by Paolo Soratini (1680-1764) abbot and architect of Lonato del Garda: elevation of the apse, presbytery, central and lateral nave; construction and decoration of the vaults, opening of side and front windows; settlement of the presbytery. After the interventions of the XVIII century only more or less demanding maintenance was carried out. Inside there are three naves divided by marble columns, ten side chapels, arches and wall paintings; among fine paintings, relics, wooden furniture, some inlaid marble altars, there are works of considerable importance such as the Pala by Tiziano Vecellio “The Resurrection appears to the Mother” in the apse and the “mazzoniano statuary group” by Guido Mazzoni or “Modanino”.
