Ponale Road

was designed by Giacomo Cis to connect Riva del Garda to Ledro avoiding the old road that came from the Garda along the right side of the ravine and crossing the bridge over the Ponale.

Ponale road project included a number of galleries and turns but opened the valley to the possibility of transit of goods and people, so they were allocated funds from municipalities in the valley and work began in 1847, but after only a year had to be suspended because of the war, though in 1851 they were already built about five kilometers with the work progresses some galleries were added, and the bottom of the street was cobbled and there were walls and wood railings for protection. The road began to be percrorsa by machines already in 1891, but its maintenance was difficult because of the frequent landslides, so with the new techniques available it was decided to kick start the design and construction of a new road, which was opened in 199 and passing the tunnel and the Dom Dell’Agnese the Ponale Road was closed for decades, but was reopened in 24 thanks to the efforts of the Comitato Giacomo Cis, proposing it as a panoramic view of the Garda.
