Pretorio Palace

in Riva del Garda is located in the square in front of the harbor

Pretorio Palace of Riva (called Palazzo della Ragione, in the depictions) is an original building dating back to 1375, located alongside the Casa del Comune, built on the will of Cansignorio della Scala. Its function was that of the court, headquarters of the Provveditore, which had the task of administering justice and enforcing statutes, functions that were carried out under the large loggia of the building, while the tops occupied the rectors. One of the coats of arms is Prince Neideck’s bishop Giorgio. At the beginning of the nineteenth century the building underwent an important collapse and was then joined to the adjacent buildings, the public warehouse and the municipal building, and was also raised. Under the loggia, during the restoration works carried out in the second half of the 20th century were brought to light the frescoes depicting city life scenes and a fresco depicting the Madonna with Child, now kept in the Riva Museum.
