Marmirolo is located in the plain between Mantua and the Garda Morainic Hills and is crossed by the river Mincio, here is a part of what was once an ancient forest that covered the entire Po Valley. Marmirolo is located in the Po Valley, and is crossed by the river Mincio.Economy: Marmirolo has three strengths in its economy, the production of “dop” cheeses (of protected origin); in its territory there are areas with soil rich of gravel called “prati stabili” and it is from here that is the fodder for cows which produce milk used for the famous Grana Padano. The second strong point is the production of “salami crudi” (raw salami); third but not less important, the design and construction of machines for labeling and fill the containers of each type.
HISTORY OF MARMIROLO
Marmirolo, was transferred to the province of Mantua in 1055 and was an ancient possession of the Canossa family owner of many lands and buildings. At that time the town had three villages: the Borgo dei Ronchi, Borgo Castello and Borgo delle Lame. In the sixteenth century was built for the duke Vincenzo I Gonzaga the famous building Bosco della Fontana, this building was designed by two architects of the Cremonese, the brothers Giuseppe and Francesco Dattaro.
In Marmirolo remains to be seen the tower, which is located in the town square, where there were bells coming from a tower was destroyed in 1700 and then were melted down to make weapons.
Marmirolo is a municipality that has expanded and has all the services that the citizen needs, there are no great monuments and ancient buildings to visit, include the parish church of Saints Filippo and Giacomo built on the foundation of an earlier church, the inside you can admire the paintings of Veronese painter Fra’ Semplice.
