Calchere Caprino Veronese

were ovens for cooking stones of limestone and production of lime for the building industry.

In the calchere the stones were placed so as to create a dome in which were made ̷̷of bundles of wood; firing lasted several days (about 7) during which the fire was continuously fed in order to achieve and maintain the temperature inside. On top of this dome was placed on a stone with a cross and when this became white cooking was over. The boulders were placed in boiled water to finish the chemical to get the lime. Of these buildings there are only some remains, but you can still find some through the vegetation.
