Carpenedolo
piazza Chiesa, 25013 Carpenedolo Bs

Church of San Giovanni Battista it is located in the historic center, the front of the square separates it from the main street that cuts the town

Church of San Giovanni Battista is the parish church of Carpenedolo, an eighteenth century building on previous ruins, has a Latin cross plan with a single large nave. The façade dates back to 1901 in neoclassical style, the portal is flanked by two Corinthian columns and surmounted by a curvilinear tympanum; on its sides two pairs of Corinthian columns flanking a niche with a saint surmounted each by a small triangular tympanum. The interior is not very bright, the nave has a richly stuccoed barrel roof and small frescos. On the sides of the nave there are chapels with interesting paintings by eighteenth-century painters from Brescia, such as the Martyrdom of San Bartolomeo by Francesco Maffei; the apse is deep with a large painting on the bottom depicting the Nativity of St. John the Baptist; the altar is in Baroque style and on the sides there are two organs. Overall the interior is very scenic, with an atmosphere reinforced by the lack of natural light.
