Torri del Benaco is an ancient fishing village, built on the Verona side of Lake Garda average.

The old town is surrounded by medieval walls and towers and remains at the foot of Mount Baldo. Squares, the harbor, the streets, the warm Venetian colors that surround the town, make Torri del Benaco one of the most beautiful villages of Lake Garda. Torri del Benaco has two fractions: Pai and Albisano. Pai is divided in an old and a modern one. The old town, dating from the tenth century, has monuments of great historical interest, the modern developed along the lake; Albisano, being located in an elevated area and enjoys breathtaking views. Although modest in size, Torri del Benaco has much to offer its visitors: it is a country rich in history and monuments that make us relive every moment of the past: see the Scaliger Castle (where inside has arisen an ethnographic museum), the “limonare” (lemon houses), the Church of San Marco (seventh century), the Church of St. Gregory (XII century), the Church of the Holy Trinity at the Port (XV century), the Church of St. Martin (XVIII century) and not least, the port. Torri del Benaco, located on the coast of the Middle Verona Lake Garda, at the foot of Mount Baldo, is about 38 km from Verona and is a town with more than 2900 inhabitants. It has two fractions: Pai and Albisano, the first at about seven kilometers from the capital, but the lake, while the second remains in elevated position above the lake, on the ridge of Mount Baldo. The country’s economy is based on tourism and oil production. Present in Torri also the necking means land devoted to the cultivation of lemons.

HISTORY OF TORRI DEL BENACO

Torri del Benaco, inhabited since prehistoric times, it became an important Roman fort and village, see the west tower of the castle and town planning of the old town. He knew the Romans after a period of occupation by various people then, during the Lombard domination was home for a few days Berengar I, King of Italy, who dictated six diplomas now remember the streets of the parish of epigraph side. Later, Torri del Benaco, became part of the territory Scala and thanks to Antonio della Scala was rebuilt on the ruins of the castle before and after the Clock Tower. Passed to the Venetians and became the seat of the Council of the “Gardesana dall’Acqua“, which brought together 10 municipalities of the lake that had a certain administrative autonomy. The Council met in the Church of SS. Trinity, where they were held both political and religious functions.
