Roman furnaces

The Roman furnaces are located on the road that leads from Lonato to Castiglione delle Siviere, in the area south of the village, in the locality “Fornace dei Gorghi”.

Roman furnaces of Lonato are a recent discovery, they are part of a group of six furnaces of a craft area for the production of building bricks and the raw materials for centuries were water, clay and wood; the size of the site suggests an important production, so much so that, in the area, there was a furnace since the fifteenth century. One of them has a circular plan, has been restored and open to the public.
